Human Resources Manager

Houston, TX

We are currently seeking a Human Resources Manager for our Houston office. This position is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the firm’s human resources and maximizing employee performance by planning, implementing and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs and practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Oversee the HR department functions and manage the department employees.
  • Develop department goals and objectives and organize all activities of the department. Evaluate department initiatives in relation to established goals.
  • Provide guidance, assistance and direction to the HR Generalist.
  • Manage and maintain HRIS system.
  • Align performance management system with compensation structure. Identify career development opportunities for succession planning.
  • Research and negotiate group health care benefits.
  • Monitor Family and Medical Leave Act compliance and adherence to confidentiality provisions for employee medical files.
  • Conduct open enrollment for annual elections.
  • Conduct workers compensation audit and prepare quarterly matching and profit-sharing reports for Controller. Oversee payroll registers, insurance invoices and 401k/HAS schedules.
  • Manage and conduct new hire Orientation. Conducts exit interviews.
  • Oversee and assess training programs and types of training necessary to improve performance and productivity.
  • Will have a hands-on role in evaluating employee performance. Determine and identify if additional training and orientation is necessary.
  • Implement effective employee relations strategy for preserving employer-employee relationships.
  • Ensure safe working environment, free of discrimination and harassment.
  • Develop strategic solutions to meet workforce demands and labor force trends; conduct annual salary surveys.
  • Oversees the recruitment and selection process of administrative employees; responsible for decisions related to corporate branding as it relates to recruitment and retention.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field; Master’s Degree is preferred.

At least (3) years of Human Resources Manager experience or (7) years of experience in the HR field. Experience in a law firm setting is preferred, but not required.

SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or (SHRM-SCP).

Professional in Human Resources Certification (PHR) preferred, but not required.

Advanced skills in Microsoft Office tools, and experience with HRIS and Paychex.

Must have solid communication skills and decision-making capabilities based on analytical skills and critical thought process.

IP Legal Administrative Assistant

Palo Alto, CA, Greensboro, NC

We are currently seeking an IP Legal Administrative Assistant in our Houston and Palo Alto offices. This position will be a member of a highly collaborative legal support team and will provide secretarial/administrative support to Partners, Associates, and Technical Advisors in intellectual property matters, with a primary focus on domestic patent prosecution and trademark filings. Responsibilities include: managing attorney dockets on a daily basis, processing and filing domestic patent applications with the USPTO, preparing and processing legal documents, correspondence and memoranda, drafting reporting correspondence to clients, and communicating and collaborating with clients and third parties as necessary.

This is a hands-on position that involves working within a team-oriented and client centered environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent flexibility, organization skills, and be detail-oriented with strong communication and client service skills. Three to five years of experience working on patent prosecution and patent/trademark in an IP law firm or corporate law department required. Experience with IP docketing systems, such as IP Manager, as well as working knowledge of IPDAS, PatentOptimizer, and iManage is strongly preferred. Additionally, this candidate should have thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and be proficient with legal and patent terminology.

IP Litigation Associate

Houston, TX

Patterson + Sheridan, LLP is seeking a Litigation Associate to join our growing IP Litigation practice. The ideal candidate will have excellent academic and professional credentials, as well as a minimum of 4-7 years of experience handling all aspects of intellectual property and/or patent litigation. A degree or background in engineering or the sciences and actual patent litigation trial experience is strongly preferred. Candidates with 5+ years of general litigation experience in a large law firm setting that demonstrate the ability to learn underlying technology will also be considered. Candidates must have a JD, strong research, verbal and written communication skills.
