Information Technology Director

Houston, TX

We are currently seeking an Information Technology Director to be located in our Houston office. This individual will be a member of a highly collaborative legal support team and will be responsible for overseeing IT department operations, IT administration, systems infrastructure, as well as interfacing with Management for overall IT design, direction and implementation. Responsibilities include: analyzing, planning, and managing all aspects of the Firm’s systems, including data processing, word processing, LAN, WAN, integration of systems, telecommunications, and user computers; creating, tracking, and prioritizing project assignments; providing weekly updates to the Management Committee and/or appropriate parties; developing policies and procedures for infrastructure use and data access for the Firm; overseeing IT operations for all offices and ensuring connectivity demands are met and future requirements are managed; monitoring security risks/vulnerabilities and implementing mitigation efforts across both corporate and BYOD platforms; overseeing and maintaining data protection systems and disaster recovery plans/objectives; developing and implementing strategies across the Firm to maintain systems, government compliance requirements, client compliance requirements and security features required to achieve success; coordinating resources and timetables with users, departments, and team members through to project completion; preserving assets by implementing disaster recovery, back-up procedures, and information security and control; recommending strategies, policies, and procedures by evaluating Firm needs; identifying areas for improvement by evaluating trends and anticipating needs; forecasting and preparing an annual budget; scheduling projects and expenditures based on budgetary constraints; maintaining quality service with established and enforceable Firm standards; managing hardware and software assets, including licensing, purchasing, budget and vendor management; managing a team of consultants and professionals and provide after-hours escalated Help Desk support.

This is a hands-on position tasked with setting up processes and strategies for current and future initiatives in a team-oriented and client centered environment; mobile device integration in a BYOD setting using Microsoft Active Sync, Airwatch and other Firm applications; telecommunications; networking (LAN/WAN) and Microsoft infrastructure (Active Directory, DNS, etc.); Cisco and SonicWall firewalls, switching and routing technologies; Storage Area Networks, hyper-converged solutions, Virtualization (VMware) Cloud computing and SaaS applications. The successful candidate will demonstrate technical knowledge of networking environments, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Windows and server operating systems. Extensive application support and experience with Microsoft Office products required. Experience with legal applications, such as iManage, IPManager, IPDAS, Elite 3E, IntApp Integrate, and others typically found in law firms environments, is highly desired. Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field is strongly preferred along with technical certification(s).

Senior Billing Coordinator

Houston, TX

We are currently seeking a Senior Billing Coordinator in our Houston office. This position will be a member of a highly collaborative legal support team and will provide a vital role in managing client inventory from generating WIP reports, invoice preparation to collection of receivable. This role will assist partners with client billing and will be responsible for the complete cycle from bill preparation to collection of accounts receivable, acting as liaison between partners and clients in regard to billing matters, preparing related financial and historical reports and handling ad hoc projects as appropriate. This role also serves as partner’s point person in the billing process – working with the partner’s team to ensure accuracy and timeliness. The coordinator has frequent communications with clients whether responding to queries or resolving billing disputes.

This is a hands-on position that involves working within a team-oriented and client centered environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent flexibility, organizational skills, and be detail-oriented with strong communication and client service skills. Five plus years of experience in a law firm or corporate law department is required and experience in an IP law firm is a plus. The candidate must be proficient in accounts reconciliation and have intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills and proficient knowledge of Elite 3E. Knowledge of electronic billing software packages (i.e. Serengiti, TyMetrix, DataCert) is required along with proactively developing and maintaining technical knowledge with remaining up-to-date on current trends and best practices.

Patent Illustrator

Houston, TX

We are currently seeking a Patent Illustrator in our Houston office. This position will be a member of a highly collaborative legal support team and will provide draftsman support to Partners, Associates, and Technical Advisors in intellectual property matters. Responsibilities include: delivering time-critical projects with the highest level of quality consciousness, preparing illustrations for patent and design applications to be filed and accepted by any of the world’s patent offices, creating solid models (CAD), converting drawings for foreign filing, preparing technical illustrations for presentation, creating animations and diagrams for patent litigation and communicating and collaborating with inventors and third parties as necessary.

This is a hands-on, entry level position, that involves working within a team-oriented and client centered environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate technical knowledge, understand USPTO rules and procedures for illustrations, understand different industries and client technologies, understand prior art and be able to interview/discuss inventions with inventors, able to transfer skills across multiple industries. Experience with AutoCAD, VISIO and/or other illustration software is required. Additionally, this candidate should possess strong communication skills, an ability to maintain client confidentiality and a heightened attention to detail.

IP Legal Administrative Assistant

Greensboro, NC

We are currently seeking an IP Legal Administrative Assistant in our Greensboro office. This position will be a member of a highly collaborative legal support team and will provide secretarial/administrative support to Partners, Associates, and Technical Advisors in intellectual property matters, with a primary focus on domestic patent prosecution and trademark filings. Responsibilities include: managing attorney dockets on a daily basis, processing and filing domestic patent applications with the USPTO, preparing and processing legal documents, correspondence and memoranda, drafting reporting correspondence to clients, and communicating and collaborating with clients and third parties as necessary.

This is a hands-on position that involves working within a team-oriented and client centered environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent flexibility, organization skills, and be detail-oriented with strong communication and client service skills. Three to five years of experience working on patent prosecution and patent/trademark in an IP law firm or corporate law department required. Experience with IP docketing systems, such as IP Manager, as well as working knowledge of IPDAS, PatentOptimizer, and iManage is strongly preferred. Additionally, this candidate should have thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and be proficient with legal and patent terminology.

IP Litigation Associate
