IP Legal Administrative Assistant

Houston, TX

We are currently seeking an IP Legal Administrative Assistant in our Houston office. This position will be a member of a highly collaborative legal support team and will provide secretarial/administrative support to Partners, Associates, and Technical Advisors in intellectual property matters, with a primary focus on domestic patent prosecution and trademark filings. Responsibilities include: managing attorney dockets on a daily basis, processing and filing domestic patent applications with the USPTO, preparing and processing legal documents, correspondence and memoranda, drafting reporting correspondence to clients, and communicating and collaborating with clients and third parties as necessary.

This is a hands-on position that involves working within a team-oriented and client centered environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent flexibility, organization skills, and be detail-oriented with strong communication and client service skills. Three to five years of experience working on patent prosecution and patent/trademark in an IP law firm or corporate law department required. Experience with IP docketing systems, such as IP Manager, as well as working knowledge of IPDAS, PatentOptimizer, and iManage is strongly preferred. Additionally, this candidate should have thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and be proficient with legal and patent terminology.

IP Litigation Associate

Houston, TX

Patterson + Sheridan, LLP is seeking a Litigation Associate to join our growing IP Litigation practice. The ideal candidate will have excellent academic and professional credentials, as well as a minimum of 4-7 years of experience handling all aspects of intellectual property and/or patent litigation. A degree or background in engineering or the sciences and actual patent litigation trial experience is strongly preferred. Candidates with 5+ years of general litigation experience in a large law firm setting that demonstrate the ability to learn underlying technology will also be considered. Candidates must have a JD, strong research, verbal and written communication skills.

IP Litigation Legal Assistant

Houston, TX

We are currently seeking an IP Litigation Legal Assistant in our Houston office. This position will be a member of a highly collaborative litigation team and will provide paralegal and secretarial support to partners and associates in our IP Litigation Department. Responsibilities include: assist with preparation and filing of documents; organize and coordinate document productions; set up and maintain files; work with partners and associates to prepare them for depositions, court appearances, client meetings, etc. Prepare for and attend trials. Organize exhibits, files and all other supporting documents, coordinate trial set-up and logistics.

This is a hands-on position that involves working within a team-oriented and client centered environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent flexibility, organization skills, and be detail-oriented with strong communication and client service skills. Three to five years of litigation paralegal experience required. Experience in IP Litigation preferred. Experience with electronic court filing, managing databases, and indexing and categorizing legal documents required. Additionally, this candidate should have thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and be proficient with legal filing and record-keeping practices, as relevant to the specific practice.

Docketing Coordinator

Houston, TX

Currently seeking a Docketing Coordinator in our Houston office. This position will be a member of a highly collaborative docketing team and will require docketing on a daily basis, including all relevant and pertinent deadlines into the docketing database to keep patents and trademarks in force for attorneys and paralegals. Responsibilities include:

  • Generate and distribute daily/weekly docket reminder reports
  • Update database with attorney responses
  • Review and process outgoing USPTO mail and electronic filings for accuracy and completeness
  • Monitor and update information on all U.S./foreign case records/related docket entries in database
  • Assist in auditing/entering/updating all IP prosecution matters transferred into the firm
  • Generate and prepare patent
    status and docket reports for lawyers and clients upon request
  • Maintain current knowledge of IP rules and procedures, both domestic and foreign and assist in troubleshooting Patent and Trademark office issues

This is a hands-on position that involves working within a team-oriented and client centered environment. The successful candidate understands the importance of deadlines and demonstrates strong organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy and time management, and effectively work/communicate with partners, clients and all levels of Firm personnel. At least one year of experience working in an IP law firm, corporate law firm or corporate environment strongly preferred. Experience with IP docketing software systems, such as IPManager or
IPMaster is a plus. Additionally, this candidate should have thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and be proficient in basic computer/office functions.
