Human Resources Manager

Houston, TX

We are currently seeking a Human Resources Manager for our Houston office. This position is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the firm’s human resources and maximizing employee performance by planning, implementing and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs and practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Oversee the HR department functions and manage the department employees.
  • Develop department goals and objectives and organize all activities of the department. Evaluate department initiatives in relation to established goals.
  • Provide guidance, assistance and direction to the HR Generalist.
  • Manage and maintain HRIS system.
  • Align performance management system with compensation structure. Identify career development opportunities for succession planning.
  • Research and negotiate group health care benefits.
  • Monitor Family and Medical Leave Act compliance and adherence to confidentiality provisions for employee medical files.
  • Conduct open enrollment for annual elections.
  • Conduct workers compensation audit and prepare quarterly matching and profit-sharing reports for Controller. Oversee payroll registers, insurance invoices and 401k/HAS schedules.
  • Manage and conduct new hire Orientation. Conducts exit interviews.
  • Oversee and assess training programs and types of training necessary to improve performance and productivity.
  • Will have a hands-on role in evaluating employee performance. Determine and identify if additional training and orientation is necessary.
  • Implement effective employee relations strategy for preserving employer-employee relationships.
  • Ensure safe working environment, free of discrimination and harassment.
  • Develop strategic solutions to meet workforce demands and labor force trends; conduct annual salary surveys.
  • Oversees the recruitment and selection process of administrative employees; responsible for decisions related to corporate branding as it relates to recruitment and retention.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field; Master’s Degree is preferred.

At least (3) years of Human Resources Manager experience or (7) years of experience in the HR field. Experience in a law firm setting is preferred, but not required.

SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or (SHRM-SCP).

Professional in Human Resources Certification (PHR) preferred, but not required.

Advanced skills in Microsoft Office tools, and experience with HRIS and Paychex.

Must have solid communication skills and decision-making capabilities based on analytical skills and critical thought process.

Billing & Collections Clerk

Houston, TX

Patterson + Sheridan, LLP is seeking a Billing and Collections Clerk to assist with the monthly billing process and coordinating the collections activities of our client accounts.

The billing responsibilities will include submitting invoices electronically via third party intermediaries, tracking and reconciling electronic invoices, and assist clients in resolving billing inquiries or invoice discrepancies. In addition, this position will support the Billing Department staff with other responsibilities to assist with meeting month end goals. This is a hands-on position that involves working within a team-oriented environment.

The collections responsibilities will include effectively managing and collecting client accounts to meet monthly collections goals. This candidate will have the ability to research and resolve customer billing inquiries, generate and update Accounts Receivable reports, be able to manage multiple priorities, work directly with Partners and Controller on client accounts and implement and maintain collection processes and procedures.

This candidate will be detail oriented, proactive, self-motivated, and results oriented. The Billing & Collections Clerk must have excellent communication and organizational skills. Knowledge of Elite 3E is preferred, but not required. Experience with electronic invoicing and electronic billing software packages is required (i.e., Serengeti, Tymetrix, Collaborati, etc.). Additionally, this candidate should have thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word and Excel.

IP Legal Administrative Assistant

Houston, TX, Palo Alto, CA

We are currently seeking an IP Legal Administrative Assistant in our Houston and Palo Alto offices. This position will be a member of a highly collaborative legal support team and will provide secretarial/administrative support to Partners, Associates, and Technical Advisors in intellectual property matters, with a primary focus on domestic patent prosecution and trademark filings. Responsibilities include: managing attorney dockets on a daily basis, processing and filing domestic patent applications with the USPTO, preparing and processing legal documents, correspondence and memoranda, drafting reporting correspondence to clients, and communicating and collaborating with clients and third parties as necessary.

This is a hands-on position that involves working within a team-oriented and client centered environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent flexibility, organization skills, and be detail-oriented with strong communication and client service skills. Three to five years of experience working on patent prosecution and patent/trademark in an IP law firm or corporate law department required. Experience with IP docketing systems, such as IP Manager, as well as working knowledge of IPDAS, PatentOptimizer, and iManage is strongly preferred. Additionally, this candidate should have thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and be proficient with legal and patent terminology.

IP Litigation Associate

Houston, TX

The ideal candidate will have excellent academic and professional credentials, as well as a minimum of 4-7 years of experience handling all aspects of intellectual property and/or patent litigation. IP Litigation Legal Assistant

Houston, TX

We are currently seeking an IP Litigation Legal Assistant in our Houston office. This position will be a member of a highly collaborative litigation team and will provide paralegal and secretarial support to partners and associates in our IP Litigation Department. Responsibilities include: assist with preparation and filing of documents; organize and coordinate document productions; set up and maintain files; work with partners and associates to prepare them for depositions, court appearances, client meetings, etc. Prepare for and attend trials. Organize exhibits, files and all other supporting documents, coordinate trial set-up and logistics.

This is a hands-on position that involves working within a team-oriented and client centered environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent flexibility, organization skills, and be detail-oriented with strong communication and client service skills. Three to five years of litigation paralegal experience required. Experience in IP Litigation preferred. Experience with electronic court filing, managing databases, and indexing and categorizing legal documents required. Additionally, this candidate should have thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and be proficient with legal filing and record-keeping practices, as relevant to the specific practice.
