Jon has substantial experience in patent preparation and prosecution matters, having individually drafted or substantively reviewed hundreds of original U.S. patent applications. Jon also participates in a variety of projects related to pre-litigation analyses, invalidity and infringement studies, and formal opinion matters. Jon works with clients that range from large, multi-national corporations to small, venture-capital funded start-ups. Jon has strong technical expertise in computer science, with a focus on networking, distributed applications, network security, including PKI-based cryptographic systems, and has substantial knowledge regarding operating systems, programming languages, compilers, and other aspects of software and software design, including issues related to open source development models. Prior to joining Patterson & Sheridan, Jon practiced with a litigation boutique where he focused on complex commercial litigations, including a multimillion dollar shareholder dispute involving a closely-held corporation that resulted in multiple appeals to the Utah Supreme Court.
