When Autodesk, a global leader in 2D and 3D design software, purchased the 3D animation graphics assets of Avid Technologies, a worldwide leader in editing and animation tools for film, video, audio, and 3D animation, Patterson + Sheridan was retained to conduct due diligence of the patents applicable to the transaction. Among other things, Patterson + Sheridan analyzed a substantial portfolio of patents and patent applications to determine the relevance of each asset to the transaction and assisted in negotiating the transfer of rights in the portfolio to Autodesk.
