Eddy Song, Of Counsel

With over 17 years of intellectual property experience under his belt, Eddy Song has successfully managed a wide variety of legal matters for new and growing businesses. To date, he’s helped three businesses double their revenue to more than $1 billion, supporting the various cycles of growth and mitigating risks along the way. As a result, Eddy has earned a solid reputation for his can-do attitude and keen ability to focus on the bottom line.

A foundation in patent prosecution

Eddy developed a solid foundation in patent prosecution early in his career. As a private practice attorney, he has represented clients across a broad spectrum of technologies, such as display, semiconductor, micro mechanical devices, oil field, internet, medical devices and polymer technologies. Eddy has also provided pre-litigation support, including preparing patent analyses and opinions, and conducting due diligence on IP assets for licensing and acquisitions. From the start, Eddy has committed himself to providing high-quality service, offering a practical and hands-on approach to solving client issues.

Strategic counseling for sophisticated IP matters

Eddy also has several years of in-house experience, previously serving as senior IP counsel at a Fortune 500 company. There, he focused on patent portfolio management, patent monetization, and patent due diligence for complex transactions such as freedom-to-operate, inbound licensing, venture funding and acquisitions. Additionally, Eddy gained extensive experience with drafting technology agreements and regularly negotiated numerous agreements with mega cap and start-up companies.

Realizing that being able to enforce patents is just as important as protecting them, Eddy is also skilled in preparing both offensive and defensive patent analyses. In one instance, he led the successful invalidation defense of a company’s foreign patents against another company copying a key product. Eddy jumped right in, analyzing the company’s patent portfolios and identifying which patents could be asserted, and in the end, helped the company to maintain their business with minimal interruption to their daily operations.

In his spare time, Eddy enjoys participating in relays, traveling and spending time with his family.
