Jason Sedano, Associate

Balancing law and science

Jason Sedano has over 10 years of experience in helping companies meet and exceed their intellectual property objectives. With clients spanning across the computer, electrical, agricultural and mechatronic fields, Jason has established himself as a diverse practitioner best known for the quality and efficiency he brings to his work.

Jason first began engaging in IP services as a patent engineer after earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in computer and electrical engineering from Rice University. This early start to patent practice would allow him to gain a solid foundation in preparing and filing patent applications on behalf of inventors. He has since expanded his practice into other areas and as a result, offers his clients a holistic approach to protecting their most valuable assets.

Cultivating a culture of innovation

For Jason, the secret to a successful patent lies in his ability to not only translate the inventor’s idea into legal terms, but also his ability to push the scope of what the patent covers. Relying on his extensive technical knowledge, he prides himself on capturing the most complex details of an invention and providing the broadest patent possible.

For companies in need of additional or alternative forms of protection to patents, Jason leverages a variety of tools such as trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and licensing agreements. This approach was particularly valuable for a client who allowed Jason to step in and build an IP structure that, over time, yielded multiple forms of IP protection from just one patent. By putting such a structure in place, Jason helped the company to protect its core product while developing an internal culture of innovation that continues to build off of this success.

In his spare time, Jason enjoys traveling and spending time with his family. He is also a native Spanish speaker.
