A seasoned lawyer and firm leader with three decades of practice and management experience
As Patterson + Sheridan's CEO, Jeff oversees the strategic, operational and day-to-day activities of the firm, freeing up its attorneys to focus on attracting and retaining clients and doing great work on their matters. He leads the firm's administrative staff and oversees the firm’s human resources, docketing, technology, finance, recruiting and business development teams. He also works closely with the firm’s managing partner and the management committee to execute on the firm’s vision and goals for improvement and growth.
Jeff's goal is to empower Patterson + Sheridan attorneys to do what they do best: seek, source and develop client relationships while offering high-end legal service. He aims to inspire, lead and serve all of the firm’s employees in providing exceptional service to clients and customers (whether internal or external to the firm) in a collegial, professional and team-oriented environment.
Jeff joined Patterson + Sheridan after 32 years at Andrews Kurth, an international law firm and one of the largest in Houston. As a partner in the firm for more than two decades, his practice focused on out-of-court restructurings and commercial bankruptcy proceedings for a variety of clients, including creditor committees, debtors-in-possession, banks and institutional investors, and purchasers of assets out of bankruptcy.
Law firm and business insight that comes from years "in the saddle"
His career as an attorney gives Jeff a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Patterson + Sheridan's lawyers. However, he also draws on years of law firm management experience, making him an ideal fit as the firm's chief executive.
Jeff served as his previous law firm's Executive Director, leading a team of more than 300 employees and overseeing the firm's business operations. In addition, he has years of experience as a hiring partner, finance committee co-chair and member of various committees including those responsible for business intake, billing and collections, partner and non-partner compensation, and retirement and benefits programs. He also led his previous firm's transition from paper to electronic business intake functionality, and was part of the leadership team that shepherded its successful merger with Hunton & Williams. This blend of legal practice, business savvy and firm leadership gives Jeff a distinct perspective into the many facets that make a successful law firm.
When he's not leading Patterson + Sheridan and working to execute its strategic vision, Jeff rides and shows his own horses competitively, including at the 2019 National Cutting Horse Association World Finals. He enjoys spending time with his wife of 28 years and his two grown children, especially at their family's ranch in west Texas.
