A meticulous electrical engineer who crafts precise patent applications

As a technical advisor in Patterson + Sheridan’s Houston office, Kyle Drayton works alongside the firm’s attorneys to protect his clients’ intellectual property assets. He leverages his electrical engineering and computer science background to draft and prosecute patents electronics, semiconductor technologies, artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Kyle has secured patent approvals for a variety of inventions during his career.

While with another firm, he worked with inventors in the medical device and oil and gas industries. Kyle has also helped clients navigate the patent process for their memory devices, SSD drives, NAND products and other emerging technologies.

Early in his career, Kyle did extensive work handling USPTO office actions. That experience made him adept at guiding clients through the office actions process to position the patentability of their inventions.

A systematic approach to preparing and prosecuting patents

Degrees in both electrical engineering and computer science have armed Kyle with the technical knowledge and systematic approach to his work that he leverages daily on the behalf of clients. He believes in listening to inventors and fully understanding all aspects of what they create so he can best advise on how to protect the results of their hard work. Kyle prides himself on his ability to prepare patent applications that precisely interpret what a client has in mind. That has earned him the trust of not only fellow attorneys but the inventors he works with as well.

A graduate of Texas Southern University, a Historically Black College & University, Kyle is deeply involved in the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated. That includes serving as historian and social chair, as well as serving as a mentor to other young black men to help them succeed in their careers. He feels it is an honor to represent his community in this way. Never complacent, Kyle is now working to further his IP career.

When he is not in the office, Kyle loves to enjoy time gaming with his friends and community outreach with his fraternity.
