Chloë Sells is a technical advisor in Patterson + Sheridan’s Waco office, where she collaborates with the firm’s attorneys to protect clients’ intellectual property. Drawing on her extensive background in chemistry, Chloë assists with patent preparation and prosecution for biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemical, electronics and semiconductor technology applications.
Prior to joining the firm, Chloë worked as a production scientist for a DNA technology company and as an associate research scientist. Her work included performing synthesis, purification and quality control tests of custom oligonucleotides and antibodies. That robust lab experience now informs Chloë’s patent work.
Chloë earned her Ph.D. and B.S. in Chemistry from Baylor University. While earning her Ph.D., Chloë worked as a graduate research assistant, where she designed, implemented and optimized synthetic routes of bioconjugate prodrugs of allosteric LFA-1 inhibitors for localized immunomodulation. She also functionalized existing self-immolative linker designs for application in amide and secondary amide-based drugs. Chloë served as a graduate fellow in STEM education for three years while completing her Ph.D, and as a teaching assistant throughout her undergraduate and graduate degrees.
As a technical advisor, Chloë combines her love for teaching with her affinity for learning new things. She leverages her teaching experience to convey complex concepts and break them down into easy-to-understand language. Chloë also enjoys how each day feels like solving a puzzle, and she strives to find new ways to support patent prosecution and preparation for her clients.
Outside of the office, Chloë enjoys hiking. In fact, she has hiked more than 100 peaks in San Diego County alone!
