O: 469-802-8062

An adept, accomplished IP attorney with a passion for learning

As an associate in the firm’s Dallas office, David Huang works to protect clients’ intellectual property in the fields of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, electronics and semiconductors, medical devices, optics and transportation. His varied IP practice includes advising clients on patents, trademark and brand protection, litigation and dispute resolution.

With an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering and years of experience defending the patentability of a variety of inventions — including consumer products, medical devices, health care applications, biologicals and pharmaceuticals, remote-controlled vehicles, and drones — David is well-versed in working with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to achieve his clients’ goals. Prior to joining Patterson + Sheridan, David was an IP attorney at two Texas-based firms where he gained broad experience prosecuting patent and trademark applications, drafting and negotiating agreements, litigating in state courts and before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and counseling clients on brand protection and a wide array of technology and scientific fields.

In addition, David has worked with several clients to manage, protect, and police their international trademark portfolios. In this role, he regularly counsels businesses on trademark searching, clearance, and prosecution; evaluating watch notices; negotiating settlement and consent agreements; and coordinating multi-jurisdiction opposition, cancellation, and infringement proceedings.

A client-first and business-oriented mindset

David applies a holistic approach to his practice, leveraging well-crafted patent applications and brand protection strategies in tandem to help clients gain a competitive edge. As part of his methodology, he dedicates the necessary time and resources to understanding the ins and outs of his clients’ complex technologies while diligently working to anticipate their needs and devise strategies to help grow their business.

Having worked with a wide array of technologies, David recognizes each client has unique needs and believes each matter deserves individualized attention to reach its optimal potential. He is an efficient, analytical thinker who is constantly searching for new perspectives to solidify his patent and brand protection strategies.

Outside the office, David enjoys cooking, playing the piano and guitar, playing basketball and spending time with his wife and kids. He is also a native Mandarin speaker.
