Reese Sloan, Technical Advisor

Waco, TX

O: (832) 479--5430

An academic with in-depth knowledge of materials sciences and technologies

Reese Sloan is a technical advisor in Patterson + Sheridan’s Waco office where he collaborates with the firm’s attorneys to protect client inventions. He assists in preparing and prosecuting patent applications within the fields of life sciences and chemistry.

Reese is a meticulous researcher, which he demonstrated while earning his Ph.D. in Polymer Sciences and Engineering from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM). He has broad experience across a number of complex subject areas, including biology, polymers, environmentally friendly materials and aerospace composites. For his dissertation, Reese focused on understanding the stress relaxation behaviors and mechanical property retention for vitrimer reprocessing, designing degradable thermoplastic materials and developing surface-modified membranes for use in oil-water separation. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Polymer Science with a minor in Chemistry from USM.

A sharp technical eye and commitment to continued learning

Comprehending highly complex technology doesn’t intimidate Reese — it motivates him to work even harder. An eager learner, Reese enjoys collaborating with inventors to understand and advance the patent applications of their new technologies, regardless of the field of science.

Reese excels at recognizing the finer details of novel technologies that improve their patentability, and effectively communicating their traits to others. This skill set served him well while collaborating with other scientists in the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program, presenting research at various conferences and mentoring polymer science students at USM.

In his spare time, Reese is an avid outdoorsman and sportsman who enjoys hunting, fishing, golf and soccer. He makes it a priority to spend time with his family and Labrador retriever, Sabot.
