Tristan Kaskoun, Associate
Houston, TX
O: (713) 623-4844 D: (858) 336-0572 [email protected]Combining curiosity, IP law and a knack for the hard sciences
As an attorney in the firm’s Houston office, Tristan Kaskoun blends his prominent interpersonal skills with his scientific knowledge to protect the intellectual property of his clients. He prepares, prosecutes and litigates patents involving biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, electronics and semiconductor technologies.
Prior to joining Patterson + Sheridan, Tristan was a legal intellectual property intern at a medical device company, where he learned about the hardware of biomedical devices and how to best protect IP in this sector. He also participated in multiple IP harvesting sessions and worked with in-house attorneys on patent prosecution, litigation and licensing matters.
As a former Patterson + Sheridan summer intern, Tristan worked alongside the firm’s seasoned attorneys, learning the ins and outs of the industry and how to effectively manage high-profile client portfolios. He primarily worked on prosecution and litigation matters for a semiconductor company, a multinational aircraft manufacturer, and an oil and gas company.
Helping clients ride the wave of success
A charismatic and caring attorney, Tristan sets aside assumptions and biases to first understand a client’s invention and business objectives from a macro level. He then digs into the details, taking a solution-first approach to leave no stone unturned. After all, it’s what he appreciates most about IP law: the opportunity to consistently learn something new and discover how the solution to today’s problem differs from yesterday’s.
Tristan earned his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from San Diego State University and his Juris Doctor from Loyola Marymount University Law School. In law school, he was an active member of Loyola’s Intellectual Property and Cybersecurity Law Society.
A long-time lifeguard and surf instructor in his hometown of San Diego, Tristan loves spending time outdoors and in the water. When not in the office, he enjoys snowboarding, hiking, traveling and surfing. He is also fluent in Dutch.
