William Ryann provides strategic guidance to companies as they develop and manage complex intellectual property portfolios. He prepares, prosecutes and litigates patents and trademarks in the areas of oil and gas, medical devices, semiconductor technologies, industrial equipment and materials. William also supports his clients in mergers and acquisitions, dispute resolution, risk assessment, compliance and licensing matters.

Prior to joining Patterson + Sheridan, William served as a senior patent counsel for a New England-based law firm, where he advised and protected patent portfolios for several multinational clients in the oil services, medical device and semiconductor fields, as well as research institutions.

Whether a Fortune 100 medical device manufacturer or a smaller materials company, William takes the time to understand his clients’ objectives and drive the implementation of a company-wide IP strategy, along with the requisite brainstorming, idea generation and management tools to support client objectives. In particular, William enjoys helping clients elevate their inventions to find new and unique ways they can be positioned.

William began his career as a genetic researcher at the UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He received his J.D. from Tulane Law School and his Bachelor of Science in biomedical science from Texas A&M University.
