A patent attorney powered by an electrical engineering background

Zack Klein became a patent attorney because he enjoys supporting inventors and encouraging their entrepreneurial nature. As an associate at Patterson + Sheridan, where he prepares and prosecutes patent applications involving electronics and semiconductor technologies, Zack gets a front-row seat to the invention process as he helps protect the next generation of innovative technology.

Zack’s unique background gives him a better understanding of the emerging technologies his clients design and develop. He began his professional career as an electrical engineer repairing, assembling and configuring servers, PCs and programmable logic controller (PLC) systems. He then worked for the United States Naval Air Systems Command analyzing schematics in Navy technologies and systems. During his tenure, he designed and implemented instrumentation systems that secure aircrafts when landing on the short runways of naval vessels.

Working for the Navy taught Zack to be meticulous. The decisions he made had real-life consequences out in the field. Now he applies that same mindset to every inventor he counsels. He strives to understand how his clients’ inventions are intended to work, and what they hope to achieve, to craft a strong and thorough legal strategy.

Providing the same level of service to every client

Throughout his career, Zack has helped many inventors get their start. While studying law, he worked in the Rutgers Intellectual Property Law Clinic advising lower-income and start-up entrepreneurs who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford brand, technology, or trademark protection. Zack is proud to protect hard-working inventors and family run businesses against improper claims and challenges. He once assisted in a successful mediation between his client and a major household name in the music industry. Since then, he’s helped many clients avoid frivolous litigation and has defended them against various infringement claims.

From his legal work and past clients to his education and hobbies, music has played a major role in Zack’s life. In his spare time, he operates an in-home music recording studio, and even builds and wires guitar effect pedals. He also enjoys rock climbing and cycling, and is an avid sports fan.
