Pin Wu, Associate

Strategic IP lawyer fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese

For nearly a decade, Pin has helped clients protect and defend their intellectual property in a broad range of industries. His experience includes drafting and prosecuting patent applications for 5G technologies, oil and gas tools, medical devices, electronics, software products and more. Whether it’s for clients in the U.S. or abroad, Pin fights to give business owners every possible micron of competitive edge in their space.

When it comes to his legal practice, Pin draws inspiration from Sun Tzu’s The Art of War: He understands that every invention enters and creates a “territory,” and his goal is to best position his clients to defend that territory against future competitors, or when appropriate, shape the territory itself. When forming strategies for clients, Pin looks beyond the present to understand where a technology is going and possible threats in its future.

A native of China, Pin speaks Mandarin and Cantonese. Clients appreciate his ability to efficiently handle Chinese written materials and negotiations, saving time and costs while ensuring quality and accuracy.

Published scientific researcher and engineer

Pin’s extensive background in mechanical engineering and academic research strengthens his skills as an IP attorney. Not only does he enjoy learning the latest innovations from inventors in a short amount of time, Pin relates to inventors’ mindset and spots details that help obtain patent protection. He is always looking for different options to select the optimal solutions that best serve his clients. His published research work has been broadly cited and recognized in the scientific community, including an award-winning paper based on his dissertation. Similarly, he aims for having his clients’ patents broadly licensed and recognized by the market.

Following his academic career, Pin started helping clients obtain patent protection as a former technology specialist and patent advisor while eventually attending law school part time and graduating with honors. Outside of work, he is a competitive badminton player and enjoys photography and 3D printing.
