Sepp Zangeneh is an experienced intellectual property attorney managing the firm’s Southern California offices, where he leads a team of talented attorneys and patent agents from across various offices with a wide variety of technology backgrounds, including software, artificial intelligence and machine learning, electrical, chemical and medical devices. Sepp and his team help large clients in the software, medical device and automotive industries with creation and monetization of patents and trademarks. Sepp is also regularly engaged by in-house counsel to assist with IP portfolio management, preparing FTO and non-infringement opinions, performing landscape searches, and generally advising on how to most effectively and efficiently develop IP portfolios that are aligned with the client’s business goals.

Sepp is experienced in many different technology areas including artificial intelligence and machine learning, complex software and information technology, computer hardware, business methods, financial technologies, medical devices, automotive technologies, wireless communications, virtualization and more. However, Sepp particularly enjoys protecting software (including AI) as well as medical device inventions and enjoys advising clients on how to draft and prosecute applications to avoid and overcome subject matter eligibility challenges under 35 U.S.C. § 101.

Further, Sepp is passionate about building and scaling strong teams around large Fortune 1000 clients with the goal of becoming the clients’ go-to firm and acting as an extension of the clients’ IP departments. Sepp also enjoys the business of law and helping lead hiring and growing teams of attorneys, administrative and operations professionals, as well as optimizing operations protocols for the clients he serves.

Sepp enjoys giving back to his alma mater, UCLA, having mentored several UCLA undergraduate and law students and served on the UCLA Alumni Association’s Technology Committee. He is also the co-chair of Washington in the West, an annual networking and CLE event for attorneys hosted by the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association. Sepp also previously served as the Vice Chair of the Patent Interest Group of the California Lawyers Association.

Outside of the office, Sepp enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, skiing, snowboarding, playing tennis and hiking.
