Patent law meets precision engineering
William Fortunato joined the firm in 2018 and focuses on preparing and prosecuting mechanical, electrical, and computer-related patents. He practices law with the precision and ingenuity of an engineer, leveraging previous industry experience to assist clients in aligning their IP strategies with their business objectives.
Before starting his practice, William worked as a rotational engineer with power management company Eaton Corporation. He visited multiple factories around the world to solve specific technical problems, from diagnosing software and hardware errors to implementing product redesigns and new material rollouts for production. With each assignment William had to first learn a new technology along with its challenges, and then focus on finding a solution to a longstanding problem with that technology – all within a fixed time period. He now uses this insight to fuel his law practice, bringing a solid understanding to the table of how clients use IP in their daily operations to holistically approach clients’ specific needs.
Crafting well-rounded strategies for diverse clients
Whether clients aim to expand their patent portfolios, establish trademarks, or protect themselves from infringers, William recognizes that providing competent and cost-effective services is key to their success. He has supported a wide range of clients over the years – from the Fortune 500 corporation to the everyday garage inventor – and works diligently to keep the initial enthusiasm of taking an idea from concept to market alive throughout the entire process. In doing so, William strives to find a healthy mix between identifying his clients’ goals, understanding the technical environment of an invention, and crafting a strategy that stays within the client’s budget. William is also experienced in working with inventors on pro bono matters as well as on alternative fee arrangements.
In his spare time, William enjoys reading, gardening, and spending time with his family.
