Patterson + Sheridan Promotes David Ashton and Eric Jones to Partner
DALLAS and GREENSBORO, NC (March 3, 2025) — Patterson + Sheridan LLP has elevated David Y. Ashton and Eric Jones to the firm’s partnership, effective immediately.

Ashton joined Patterson + Sheridan as an associate in 2017 and is based in the Dallas office. He is an intellectual property (IP) strategist for technology innovators ranging from startups to Fortune 100 companies. He focuses on preparing, prosecuting and managing patent portfolios involving experiential reality, virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality lenses and displays. He also prepares and prosecutes patents for electronics and semiconductors, consumer products, industrial products and financial technology. Ashton earned his J.D. from the Texas Tech University School of Law and a Master of Engineering from the Texas Tech University College of Engineering. He received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Arizona.
Jones joined Patterson + Sheridan as an associate in 2017 and is part of the firm’s Greensboro office. He prepares and prosecutes both domestic and international patent applications with an emphasis on artificial intelligence and machine learning, communications technologies, complex software, electronics and semiconductor technologies, internet and medical devices. Jones earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Wake Forest School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
