Digging into the complexities of technology

Eric Jones is a passionate patent attorney and partner in Patterson + Sheridan’s Greensboro office who prepares and prosecutes domestic and international patent and trademark applications. His practice focuses on artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, communications technologies, complex software, information technology, electronics, internet and medical devices.

Eric first began working with the firm as a summer associate. Since then, he has built out his practice to include leading national and international companies working on medical devices, semiconductors, streaming services, AI research and development and commerce solutions. A natural problem-solver, Eric enjoys finding creative solutions that are individually tailored to a client’s specific needs.

Dedicated to creating complete patent applications

Leveraging his enjoyment of learning about the inner workings of technology, Eric dedicates his time to fully comprehending each matter he works on. His ability to quickly grasp new technologies allows him to focus on what matters most – crafting strong patents that align with a client’s business strategy and goals. Eric asks meaningful questions when speaking with clients about their innovations and is not afraid to dig deep into a concept to create a robust application that is complete, accurate and accessible.

Eric earned his J.D. from the Wake Forest University School of Law and his B.A. in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Throughout his undergraduate degree, he completed hands-on courses that exposed him to the hardware side of computer science. During law school, Eric completed an internship in the patent department of another IP law firm, where he primarily focused on litigation with some exposure to licensing.

When not in the office, Eric enjoys spending time and traveling to new places with his wife and their two sons and daughter. An outdoor enthusiast, he is fond of hiking, homebrewing and occasionally flying remote-controlled aircraft.
