Leveraging a mechanical engineering background

Brian Rojas is an associate in the firm’s Shrewsbury, New Jersey, office who blends his mechanical engineering background with his patent prosecution practice to protect his clients’ innovations. He focuses on matters involving electronic and semiconductor technologies, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and oil and gas services.

Prior to joining Patterson + Sheridan, Brian was an expeditionary airfield mechanical engineer for the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division in New Jersey. During his five years in the role, he designed fixtures, components and installation methods for next-generation expeditionary airfield lighting systems. Brian also supported design and procurement efforts by reviewing contract modifications related to airfield lighting and learned how to seamlessly integrate his knowledge into writing that stakeholders, engineers and Marine technicians can understand.

A curious and careful advocate

When working with clients, Brian is a careful listener who enjoys helping companies accelerate growth by adding value to their patent processes and portfolios. His primary goal is to always help inventors protect their ideas, and he will take the time necessary to fully understand each invention from the ground up.

Brian is naturally curious about how products work, and drawing on his mechanical engineering background, he understands how to break down inventions and translate them into clear, effective patent applications.

Brian earned his J.D. from the University of New Hampshire’s Franklin Pierce School of Law and his M.S. and B.S. in mechanical engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology. While pursuing his master’s degree, he also earned a graduate certificate in computational fluid dynamics and heat transfer.

When not in the office, Brian enjoys being outdoors, riding his bicycle, hiking in the Catskill Mountains, fishing, taking trips to New York City and spending time with his dog, Harry.
