Foreign and domestic patent prosecution

Fumiko Yamaguchi joined the firm in 2017. She is a registered patent agent and assists in drafting and prosecuting foreign and domestic patents, with an emphasis on electronics and semiconductor technologies, communications technologies, nanotechnology, optics, and consumer and industrial products.

The owner of two patents herself, Fumiko has worked as a patent agent since 2015 and has supported a variety of technical arts. She is passionate about digging into the details of technology, and in addition to patent prosecution, has assisted with technical analysis of patent applications and claim construction for pre-litigation patent review and assessment.

A background in physics research

Prior to joining the firm, Fumiko earned her B.S., M.S and Ph.D. in Physics and spent 10 years researching and teaching in the areas of theoretical physics, applied physics and electrical engineering. She has participated in a variety of technically advanced projects, such as developing a novel physical system to experimentally implement quantum information processing using semiconductor, laser optics and Nuclear magnetic resonance. Other examples of her work include studying properties of electron transport through semiconductor quantum dot structures and conducting research on quantum information theory.

Fumiko is a native Japanese speaker and enjoys playing the piano and golfing in her spare time.
