Dalgis “Dee” Barras is a patent agent in the firm’s Houston office. Dee’s work focuses on patent preparation and prosecution in the technical areas of artificial intelligence and machine learning, communications technologies, consumer products, electronics and semiconductor technologies and nanotechnology.
To fully understand a client’s invention, Dee leverages her vast research background and love for learning. She is fully committed to creating, protecting and advancing her clients’ intellectual property interests and valuable innovations.
Dee brings more than seven years of research experience to Patterson + Sheridan. Prior to joining the firm, she dedicated her graduate studies at Louisiana State University (LSU) to Neutron Scattering Studies of unusual spin structure and local correlation in complex oxides. Her work was performed in several National Laboratories in the US in conjunction with international collaborations all over the world.
Unraveling new inventions
Dee is a dedicated patent agent who places a high value on effective communication, human interaction, and the practice of ethical behavior and consistent determination. She loves to understand the “why” behind every invention. Her vast research experience, together with her 10 combined years of award-winning university instruction, provide Dee with a unique ability to break down and explain complex technical topics. She relates patent applications to solving a puzzle; a million pieces to connect through intense focus and deep analysis guided by insight from the invertor in order to place intricate and highly technical inventions at the forefront of technology.
Dee holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Florida International University. She earned her Associate of Arts degree from The Honors College at Miami-Dade College.
Outside of the office, Dee enjoys spending time with her family and friends, hiking and rope jumping into waterfalls, lakes and creeks! She has played league tennis for more than a decade and can often be found on the court competing in a match (or cheering others on!). During football season you will find her watching LSU’s Tigers devour teams in Death Valley (Geaux Tigers!). Dee has strong ties to her immigrant community in Miami and her native language is Spanish. A fun fact: during everyday casual conversations, Dee’s brain is hard at work translating English into Spanish!
