Tyrrell Ufot is an attentive attorney in the firm’s Greensboro office who protects his client’s intellectual property by preparing and prosecuting patents in the artificial intelligence, machine learning, and electronics and semiconductors industries.

As a former Patterson + Sheridan summer associate, Tyrrell worked alongside the firm’s attorneys to prepare and prosecute patent applications for a weapons tracking device created by a military defense company, and he helped prepare a patent for a machine learning system. He also has experience working with clients in the fields of machine learning, transportation, and wireless communication.

Prior to joining the firm, Tyrrell was a summer associate at Burns & Levinson LLP. Throughout the summer, he prepared office action responses for networking, manufacturing and medical device clients, drafted provisional patent applications for medical device clients and performed prior art searches for patentability.

Tyrrell worked for the North Carolina Central University School of Law’s Patent Clinic throughout law school, where he aided clients with their intellectual property needs across different practice areas, specifically the software and medical device industries. He drafted and filed provisional and nonprovisional patent applications for clients, conducted patentability searches and analyzed prior art. This experience solidified Tyrrell’s interest in patent preparation and prosecution, teaching him to work in different practice areas and with a variety of clients in a professional environment.

He also externed for Statistical Analysis System, a Cary-based data management company. Tyrrell worked alongside in-house counsel and gained insight into the start-to-finish process of a patent and how in-house counsel can best work with IP attorneys.

Tyrrell holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer and Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University and his J.D. from North Carolina Central University School of Law. While in law school, Tyrrell volunteered at the NCCU School of Law’s Wills Clinic, where he prepared wills, immediate powers of attorney and healthcare powers of attorney for clinic participants.
