Patterson Sheridan Welcomes Three Attorneys and a Patent Agent
Leading technology and intellectual property firm Patterson + Sheridan announces the addition of three attorneys, a patent agent and a technical advisor. Counsels Edward Kiessling, J. Scott Martin, and associate Ben Rothchild will be located in the Dallas, Greensboro, NC, and Houston offices respectively. Patent agent Daniel Thomas has been added to the Dallas office.

Eddie Kiessling joins Patterson + Sheridan from the IP firm Dority & Manning in Greenville, SC. Before that, he served as in-house IP counsel for Proventix, a startup that specializes in radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology for monitoring healthcare workers’ compliance with hand-hygiene protocols. He has broad experience in a wide range of industries, including wearable devices, Lidar systems, LED-based lighting solutions, semiconductor manufacturing processes, software, renewable energy and turbomachinery. He holds B.S. degrees in mechanical engineering and electrical engineering from the University of Alabama at Huntsville and a J.D. from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Homewood, Alabama.
J. Scott Martin has also joined Patterson + Sheridan from Dority & Manning. His practice focuses primarily on mechanical, electrical and software matters. He has significant experience in the transportation sector, especially in the aerospace and automotive industries, but also handles matters involving artificial intelligence, clean technologies, communications technologies and complex software. He holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Wayne State University and a J.D. from Stetson University College of Law where he was a member of the Stetson Law Review.
Ben Rothchild is a U.S. Marine with a passion for upholding the law. He served for 10 years as an active-duty Marine and is currently a Major in the Marine Corps Reserve. He became a trial attorney in 2016 and has since practiced as defense counsel, trial counsel and civil law counsel at Camp Pendleton, California, and in the nation’s capital. Ben also served as a Special Assistant to the U.S. Attorney, District of Maryland, responsible for adjudicating and prosecuting federal criminal cases on behalf of the U.S. Naval Academy. Rothchild earned his B.B.A. in real estate and finance at Colorado State University, his J.D. at South Texas College of Law in Houston and his Master of Laws degree at George Washington University Law School. His practice at Patterson + Sheridan includes litigation, dispute resolution, trademark and brand protection, risk assessment and compliance services.
Patent agent Daniel Thomas comes to Patterson + Sheridan from Winstead PC. Thomas has handled patents in almost every area of intellectual property, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, chemical applications, complex software and information technology, medical devices and procedures, and nanotechnology and optics. Thomas holds a B.S. degree magna cum laude in both physics and chemistry with a mathematics minor from the University of Texas at Arlington, researching magnetic materials, conducting NASA-funded research on space plasmas, and writing computational models to calculate space weather predictions while in college.
